Poundbury
) to the east. It can be approached directly along the coast road with stunning views of the Fleet and Portland from Weymouth or from the well known town of
Lyme Regis
to the west.
There is ample accommodation here and this small resort is supported by Bridport , famous for its rope making. There are many activities close at hand as you will find by navigating the pages and links in this site.West Bay, facing the great sweep of Lyme Bay, was built as the harbour for Bridport, two miles inland. It has now become a seaside resort at the mouth of the River Brit and the great mass of East Cliff dominates the beach.
Bridport itself is an ancient town, long associated with the production of rope and netting twines which were once laid out along the wide main streets. Lined with elegant Georgian houses, these streets converge on the arcaded Town Hall which dates from 1785-86.
About two miles to the west is Seatown, an attractive village of thatched cottages with a golden shingle beach. Dominating the skyline is the 626 feet high bulk of Golden Cap, the highest cliff in Southern England.
